The Orange Johnson House in Worthingon is one of Central Ohios oldest homes. Tours come complete with period furniture and costumed docents.
Arora Buttles built the original section of the house in 1811. This pioneer portion near the back of the house has low ceilings and a walk-in fireplace with a large iron crane and bread oven.
Orange and Achsa Johnson bought the house from Buttles in 1816. Orange Johnson had been a comb maker in Connecticut, but in Worthington he expanded. He became a farmer, turnpike commissioner, paymaster for the militia, banker and railroad stockholder. The Johnsons made several additions to the house, notably the beautiful Federal-style portion facing High St. They lived there until 1863.
The Orange Johnson House Museum is owned and restored by the Worthington Historical Society. Call (614) 885-1247 for more information.
