BACK TO SCHOOL > 1 2

And last but not least, our secondary educators guide looks at some surprising facts and statistics about school violence, including the surprising find that 96 percent of students polled by CBS News said they felt safe in school.

Back to School Events

An America Goes Back to School event can be as large or as small as you choose to make it. Past events have ranged from a class picnic during which parents and community members were encouraged to volunteer in the school, to a 10,000-person citywide rally. The purpose is to celebrate community partnerships for learning and to build public awareness of and support for community's education improvement efforts. On their Web site the U.S. Dept. of Education provides ideas for America Goes Back to School events as well as long-term efforts and a planning calendar.
