Get away from it all with these Web sites for popular one-tank trip destinations to the south and west of Columbus along with your guide's experiences.
South:
Ashville is a small bedroom community on US 23 just south of Columbus. There you can visit the "Neato Stuff" at the Ashville Museum. Called one of America's top 25 roadside museums, it features the world's oldest working traffic light. This thing looks like it's from a science fiction movie, you have to see it!
Here are some of your guide's favorite places to visit in the Chillicothe area:
-
Adena Historical Home
Chillicothe-Ross Convention and Visitors Bureau
Adena is currently closed for renovations in preparation for Ohio's Bicentennial in 2003. This 5,000 acre estate of Thomas Worthington will be worth the admission price once it's finished.
News, events, and attractions from around the Chillicothe/Ross County area.Chillicothe Paints Baseball
This single A ball club was founded in 1993 and is a member of the Frontier Baseball League.Tecumseh!
This reenactment of the life of Tecumseh, an Indian from the region, is a real treat. Located in an outdoor amphitheater just outside Chillicothe, the set is beautiful and the loud gunfire will keep you jumping!
Deer Creek is a great place to get in touch with nature without driving very far. Just south of Mount Sterling, Deer Creek State Park features fishing, a marina, a lodge, and more.
Another one of my favorite areas to visit is the Hocking Hills State Park region, just south of Columbus along US 33. The Hocking Hills region includes a large wooded area with various caves, hollows, and cliffs and the Hocking River.
And if you love music, check out the Ted Lewis Museum in Circleville, featuring memorabilia of this legendary jazz musician.
