Many residents and visitors in Central Ohio know there is "a Honda plant" west of Columbus. However, many don't know there are six different Honda facilities in west Central Ohio.
Honda has plants in Anna, East Liberty, and Marysville that build Acuras, Accords, Civics, motorcycles, and the new Honda Element SUV. Honda also has a research-and-development complex near a small town called Raymond just off the US 33 freeway between Marysville and Bellefontaine. Collectively, these Honda facilities employ several thousand people from eleven Central Ohio counties.
At the Raymond facility, over 850 workers take design concepts developed in Los Angeles and turn them into working prototypes that can be mass produced. The Ohio research-and-development center has been in existence since it opened in 1985 in the Marysville auto plant before moving into its' own facility.
Here is a timeline of Honda of America plants and milestones in Central Ohio.
Homecoming
Honda motorcycle owners celebrate their love for their bikes each year at the "Honda Homecoming", scheduled in July each year. Over 8,000 motorcyclists ride their Honda Gold Wings, Valkyries, Shadows and VTX's to the annual homecoming at the Marysville motorcycle plant where their bikes were born.
