Columbus in 2012: A Review

By December 31, 2012

Turning calendar on Columbus in 2012.

The Dispatch has its annual Big Stories list reviewing the big stories of 2012. Among those mentioned were the 2012summer storm that left many throughout Central Ohio with no power at the height of a heat wave. Smart Columbus residents sought shelter and fun at Central Ohio's many water and splashparks. You can still recapture the fun of the summer and forget about the snow at the indoor parks within the area.

Other big news included the announcement that a exotic animal refuge would be built in Reynoldsburg in response to the new state law that requires owners of exotic animals to register them with the state. The tragic lions, tigers, bears, monkeys episodethat found Zanesville residents living in fear prompted the new law.

Columbus' bicentennial was this year and the city partied all year long with various events, concerts and exhibitions.

Here at About, I tried and fell in love with new restaurants:

Harvest Pizzeria

Tat Restaurante di Famiglia

And learned more about coffee than I ever thought possible at Cafe Brioso.

I also worked off a few of those calories at some of Columbus' unique museums including the early television museum on Franklin street. I worked off even more of the yummy restaurant calories on Columbus' extensive network of bike trails.

All in all, it's been a really good year. How would you judge this year?
