Roscoe Villiage Candlelighting EventWhat is your favorite part of the holidays? Trimming the tree? The music? The yummy treats? How about hanging the lights?

I can tell you one of my least happy memories as a child is the stress caused by tangled lights. Every year we'd start off unpacking the tree and ornaments and then my mother would spend an hour detangling lights that somehow had gotten themselves into a knot over the course of the year. How that happened I'll never know.

Mom would then plug them all in and search out who worked and who didn't. She fixed the broken ones, replacing bulbs and fuses, then we'd hang them on the tree. One strand always refused to light. That's when the swearing would begin.

It was stressful! At least until I reached high school and the routine had become so much a part of our tradition that my older sister and I sat back and waited for the fuss-fest and cracked up laughing when it finally happened. To this day, hanging lights is still my least favorite part of decorating for the holidays. That's why I enjoy hopping in the car and driving around the city finding others who have done the hard work and done it well. Check out our list of 5 Great Columbus Holiday Light Displays.
