Soon two art pieces by Ohio or U.S. artists will be commissioned, one for for Cleveland State University and one for Youngstown State University. Cleveland State University is commissioning work for the College of Education and Human Services building. Youngstown State University is commissioning work for the Williamson College of Business Administration building.
The commissions are part of the Ohio Percent for Art Program. The Program was voted into law in 1990. It uses one percent of the money going toward public building projects over $4 million to buy public art that all may enjoy. Since the legislation went into effect, more than 100 projects have been completed.
Artists interested in applying for these commissions should go to the Ohio Arts Council "Percent for Art program page." at. Advisory committees at both universities will review submitted artist materials to select semi-finalists. The semi-finalists will create proposals for a new commissioned work.
