It's Easy to Forget What the U.S. Has
Friday June 12, 2009
Today is election day in Iran. Turnout is heavy -- people are walking miles to get to the polling places. So far, there is no violence.
Central Ohio has some important issues on the ballot in special elections this summer. Feelings are high about these issues; taxes and schools hit people where they live. But, if past patterns hold, a lot of people won't bother to vote. Even though they don't have to walk miles to a polling place, or risk being shot, they won't vote.
Maybe voting has gotten so easy that we just don't value it anymore. I don't know. But I do know that it is easy to vote.
