Jocee Janicki, Speller Extraordinaire
Wednesday June 10, 2009
Spelling isn't my strong suit. So, I was intrigued by an article in today's (June 10) Columbus Dispatch about Jocee Janicki, the only Ohio kid headed to the international Braille Challenge. The Braille Challenge is like the National Spelling Bee for blind children, and it's every bit as competitive. Not only do the kids have to spell the words letter by letter, they have to spell them again in Braille shorthand.
Jocee is a fourth-grader at the Ohio State School for the Blind. She and her mother fly to Los Angeles later this month for the competition. I hope they let us know what happens.
