Race for the Cure Supports Year-Round Programs

Sunday May 17, 2009

Saturday morning, May 16, more than fifty thousand people ran, walked, and rolled in the battle against breast cancer.

Komen Columbus, an affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, has been sponsoring the Columbus Race since 1993. My friend and I were among Saturday’s walkers. We strolled the 5K through Downtown, the Arena District, and the Short North. Rock bands, choirs, and some fellow on his saucepan performed along the route, cheering us all along. I knew there were a lot of people, but it really hit home when I turned onto High, and saw the sea of folks stretching blocks ahead of me, and going back blocks behind me.

Over two million dollars was raised this year. That money funds breast cancer education, treatment, and free programs like the upcoming Relaxation and Guided Imagery for Symptom Management program.
